How you know that a cold is developping

You certainly know the feeling:

  • your joints start to hurt
  • your nose has been running for a few hours already
  • you are using tons of paper tissues

  • your throat is getting itchy and rough
  • you're tired
  • maybe you have a headache
  • maybe you already have a fever or at least a raised temperature

... a cold is developping!

When you use that many tissues...

... you urgently need to take 'couter measures'!
... you urgently need to take 'couter measures'!

What I do immediately:

When I start feeling the symptoms as I mention them above, I immeditately start to drink more: water, orange juice, if possible hot tea (black or green).

By drinking I support my body and the immune system. When there is enough water present in the body, everything can work at its optimum and there is a chance your body will deal with the problem swiftly.

I also start eating foods and drinking drinks that contain vitamin C. Oranges are a good source, Cranberry juice an other one. Vitamin C is needed in quite high quantities when the body fights intruders. If you have them handy, take some vitamin C tablets. I'm usually taking about 1 gram of vitamin C every two hours.

If the headache is really bad, or if I feel my fever is going up, taking an Aspirin or two usually helps me feel better too.

Finally I make sure I am well covered and warm. Feeling cold adds to the stress the body suffers already from fighting the cold. So remove undue loads from your system so that your body has a chance to fight the cold!

What I do as soon as possible:

If it's possible, I take a break from working and go lie down. I usually am able to sleep immediately and often I wake up a few hours later will the cold symptoms gone.

Sleeping lets the body deal with the problem without distractions and I find that by listening to my body and allowing it to deal with the intruders usually works just fine.

If the cold has already taken too much and simply sleeping did not do the job, then comes stage two:

A VERY hot bath in water that contains a generous addition of an eucalyptus oil. When I say very hot I mean it. I'm running a bathtub full of water at a temperature that I can hardly stand and then lower myself in slowly. Once I'm in up to my neck, I'm adding hot water slowly. That let's you raise the temperature much higher, as your body slowly adapts. A word of caution for people with circulatory or heart problems: Don't do this by yourself - make sure there is somebody who watches you and could help you if your circulation gets out of whack, and go slow, it puts a bit of stress on the circulatory system. Also don't stay in for more than about 20 minutes.

Taking such a hot bath simulates fever and activates the body defenses even further. When I get our of the bath I hop right back into my bed, and usually fall asleep again.

Up to now, that was alwys the end of of a cold. Maybe the nose was a bit runny, but the other much more annoying symptoms are gone. If your throat is a bit sore still, get some blackcurrant (cassis) lozenges and yoru throat will feel much better real quick.

What I do to prevent getting a cold

I'm in the lucky position to have a dog and thus the two of us go for a walk three times a day, irrespective of weather conditions. That's my number one cold prevention strategy. Being out all year round and at any weather keeps your immune system in good shape, Also I'm physically fit and try to eat healthy.

I try to sleep enough, if possible I let myself wake up naturally, without setting the alarm clock. I can do that as I'm working from home and by myself - I know I'm lucky and not everybody can do so. but you can make sure you go to bed early enough so that you get the sleep your body demands.

Then I'm taking nutritional supplements that provide me with all the nutrients that I should be getting every day. I've been taking the same supplements now for over 15 years, they are great and I hardly ever get a cold. Matter of fact as write this, I tried to remember when I was last in bed with a cold? Must be well over 10 years back.

Here's a link to the website where I get my supplements from. I take TVM Plus and the Proantheols 100 (an antioxidant called OPC). Sometimes I switch from TVM Plus to BioBasics, a powder that is mixed into liquid to make a health drink : Life Plus Vitamins

And finally: I enjoy life, drink a good glass of single malt whisky or a glass of wine occasionally, don't get upset about things that are not important and laugh a lot. Being a happy person helps too!

A Guide To Alternative Medicine - Part 1 (Free)

Here's what the autor says about his audio booK

There seems to be more than ever, people with ailments and sicknesses that the doctors cannot seem to cure. People are suffering every day and even doctors who claim to be the best in their field cannot relieve their suffering. Today's society is in need of a change.

I was very much in need of such a change just a few years ago. My overall health was in terrible shape. I seemed to catch every little thing that came along and I felt miserable most of the time. I had no energy and I could feel my body growing weaker each and every day. I visited doctor after doctor but no one could tell me what was wrong with me.

That's when I started to read everything I could on the subject of alternative medicine.

What I discovered completely changed my life!

I would love to share my secrets with you and my new special report on alternative medicine does just that!

Everything you need to know about alternative medicine is included in this special report:

    • Conventional Treatments vs Alternative Treatments
    • Choosing the Perfect Practitioner
    • How Can Alternative Treatments be Paid For?
    • Questions to Ask your Practitioner
    • Alternative Medicine for Women’s Health
    • Alternative Medicine for Men’s Health
    • Alternative Treatments for Children

I leave absolutely nothing out! Everything that I learned in order to understand alternative medicine and how to benefit from it, I share with you!

Alternative medicine systems say that health isn’t mere absence of disease.

Life ought to be lived with enthusiasm, and absence of enthusiasm too is a sign of ill health. Every individual is different and has a unique purpose in life. Alternative medicine tries to ensure that this purpose of life is maintained, as a person without a purpose in life cannot function to the fullest of his abilities. One needs to be inspired and motivated to be able to live life fully.
